Postcard Guestbook-take 2

So, in my last post I told you about my guestbook postcard fail and how I filled the rest of my album with purty postcards. Welp, I did find something else to fill my album up...

Our postcard RSVP cards! We had left a space on our RSVP cards for our guests to write something back to us. Not every guest did this or got the concept, but the ones who did had written some sweet things to us.

I really wasn't sure what I was going to do with them; keep them? throw them out? This was a perfect solution!

Postcard Guestbook

Guestbook wise, I originally wanted to do a Quaker style wedding certificate, but in the end, I didn't have time to design one and didn't have the $$ to have someone design one for me. So, instead I went the route of vintage style postcards. I stuck 2 stamped postcards in glassine envelopes for each guest/family, one for them to mail to whomever, one addressed to us.

More on these here.

Well, with only 20 wedding guests in tow, that narrowed down to only about 7 couples/families. That means, essentially I should have received about 7 postcards in the mail. Nope. It was a postcard guestbook FAIL. Out of 19 people/7 families, I received 4 postcards, 2 of them were from the same person. hehe. Yup, my bestie mailed me back both her postcards.

I shouldn't really be surprised, I mean only half our guests mailed back their RSVP, so why would I think any different with pre-stamped postcards?!

In case you were wondering what the postcard said: "Hey Auntie! We have a groom over here!!! A traditional wedding $3000-10,000 plus dollars, seeing your groom shake his tail feather in a grass skirt and coconuts...priceless." Bestie is referring to this. Her other postcard talked about her daughter (our flowergirl) running away from the aisle. ;o)
Either way, I'm gonna show you how we decided to keep our (4) postcards...

In this super cute wooden album we got at the Aloha Swap Meet for $8.00! woot, woot!

I love this album because you can easily display the postcards and easily pull it out of the album to read the postcard. Double score. Not that it takes much to read 4 postcards. :oP

We had spare postcards, so I decided to stick them in the album too, that way the album looked more "full".

It's a shame my idea didn't work as hoped, but ehh..what can you do.

Save your Gocco Screens.

Somewhere I had heard a rumor that you can save your already burned Gocco screens in case you wanted to print the same design on a different day. Well, I put this rumor to the test and succeeded! Remember my return addy I printed on my invitations? I just didn't feel right tossing the screen in the trash when I was done, so instead I wrapped the screen in saran wrap and stuck it in the freezer. I was too lazy to clean the screen, so I didn't I wrapped it up and stuck in the freezer, paint and all.

Six weeks later, I pulled the screen out of the freezer, let it defrost for about an hour or two, then started printing away. It worked with no issues at all!

Worked like a charm!
Now I have envelopes for thank you cards already pre-printed with our return addy. I didn't even have to add any ink. How's that for recycling!

Passport Save The Dates...DONE!

Phew! I am soooo glad to be done with these. They are in the mail, so I figure it's safe enough to post images of them.

This is the first thing the recipient sees when they get their Save the Date (aka STD) in the Mail: Custom Zazzle stamps. You can set up an account on zazzle.com and sell images to be used for custom stamps, note cards, mouse pads, etc. You get royalties for what you sell. I sold enough product that I got my custom stamps for FREE! woot woot! Hopefully I sell more product before I need to get postage for my wedding invites.

The cover was 12x12 linen cardstock I got from a scrapbook store; I was able to get 2 covers from one 12x12 sheet. I gocco'd the image on the cover.

This is the first page of the passport.

The cartoons were computer illustrated by my wonderful friend, Jon. I Heart Him! He's a full-time graphic artist and illustrator. http://www.derkinteractive.com/

"Stamps" on this page were made in photoshop using a photoshop tutorial.

Other pages of the passport included:

  • "welcome/hello" letter

  • "Getting to Oahu" info, including what airport to fly into and things to pack

  • "Staying on Oahu" -aka- hotel recommendations

  • "Traveling on Oahu", which included a map of Oahu (above) and different ways to get around the island (bus, rental car, etc.)

  • "Things to do on Oahu", list of sites to see, so guests could have a head start on researching their Hawaii destination.

  • Hawaii FAQ, ie. time difference, weather, and a note that passports are not needed if you are traveling within the US. Ya, know someone would ask!! LoL.

STD Budget Breakdown:
Blue Linen Cardstock (22-12x12 sheets) $13.00
Newsprint Paper FREE! I conveniently had newsprint paper left over from a project I did for an ex-boyfriend YEARS ago. LoL.
A2 Kraft Envelopes (50/pk) $7.99 (www.paperandmore.com)
Gocco Supplies $8.34 (http://www.northwoodstudios.tripid.com/)
TOTAL $29.33

I made 44 STD. Which breaks down to about 67cents a piece!

These were a labor of love...and I'm sooo glad they're done!

Wendy Wedding Invites!

I am officially the wedding invite designer/creator/printer for all my friends. And I love it. In the last twelve months I have done 2 wedding invites, a birthday invite, and a housewarming invite for various friends. The wedding invites were "gifts" to the brides (saved them much $$), for the birthday invite, I got paid in Hershey Park tickets. And the housewarming invite was done as a favor.

Last week, one of my bestests, Wendy, asked if I could quickly make and print invites for her. She and her hubby are planning on a small ceremony (immediate family members only), with a reception to follow a few days later with family and friends on Labor day. Well, if you check your calenders, Labor day is less than 2 months away! Wendy sent me an image she found on a website that she liked. It was a cute, modern, simple design that I "borrowed" and layed out her invite in less than an hour!
Wendy's Invites!

The invite is printed on white linen paper.

The RSVP card is attached to the invite, but it's perforated, so the guests can tear off the postcard sized RSVP and mail it back. The couple's addy is on the other side. I love it!

I'm CooCoo for Gocco!

For those who already understand the phenomenon called "Gocco", can you believe I bought this sucker months, yes months, ago and only used it for the first time last night?! Well, with supplies being hard to get and costly, I was waiting for a good, first project. My Save the Dates (aka STD's).

With the wedding being in Hawaii and all, we thought it would be good to send out STD's to close family and friends that we hope will join us on our trip. I needed to send out something informational for our guests to make their travel arraignments a lil' more easier.

My inspiration: Knottie AmyinSydney's Passport STD

Don't worry I am making a note that passports aren't needed to travel to Hawaii if you are already states bound. LoL...you know someone would ask though!

The guts (all the informational pages) are just about ready to be printed. I have a friend who's doing an illustration for me to put in them, then I can print and put them together. Last night, I got a head start and gocco'd the cover. For my first gocco project I think it went pretty well. I used linen cardstock paper for the cover. Which made the print not as crisp as it would have been if the paper had not been linen. Check it out!

My first official gocco project and wedding DIY!
